An international study has demonstrated that the microbiota and the intestinal cell death triggered by chemotherapy stimulate the efficacy of the immune response in patients with colorectal cancer. The results of the study, conducted in France by scientists from Gustave Roussy, Inserm, Université Paris-Saclay, the Institut Pasteur, IHU Méditerranée Infection and INRAE, were published in the journal Nature Medicine. The scientists offer new insights that shed light on the mechanisms governing positive or negative responses to cancer treatments.

Using state-of-the-art sequencing and bioinformatics techniques, scientists from the Institut Pasteur, working with fellow scientists from Israel and China, determined that patients with severe forms of COVID-19 presented an abnormal, ineffective lymphocyte response and a massive infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lungs.

The team of the Department of General Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases of the Necker-Enfants Malades AP-HP Hospital, the Institut Pasteur, Inserm and the University of Paris, conducted a prospective observational study between April 27 and May 15, 2020 to describe the characteristics of children and adolescents hospitalized in a context of Kawasaki disease-like syndrome in a COVID-19 epidemic context, with a systemic hyper-inflammatory expression. The results of this study were published on June 3, 2020 in the journal BMJ .

L’équipe du service de Pédiatrie générale et maladies infectieuses de l’hôpital Necker-Enfants malades AP-HP, de l’Institut Pasteur, de l’Inserm et d’Université de Paris, a conduit une étude prospective observationnelle entre le 27 avril et le 15 mai 2020 pour décrire les caractéristiques d’enfants et adolescents hospitalisés dans un contexte de syndrome apparenté à la maladie de Kawasaki en contexte épidémique Covid-19, avec une expression hyper-inflammatoire systémique.

Grâce à des techniques de pointe de séquençage et de bio-informatique, des chercheurs de l’Institut Pasteur avec des confrères israéliens et chinois ont réussi à déterminer que les patients sévères présentaient une réponse des lymphocytes anormale et inefficace ainsi qu’une infiltration massive des poumons par des cellules inflammatoires.

Klebsiella bacteria are responsible for some of the most antibiotic-resistant infections. A major study on intestinal colonization by Klebsiella has shed light on human carriage of these strains in the community (i.e. outside hospitals) in low-income countries. This study reveals that controlling Klebsiella carriage is a complex challenge.

Les infections à klebsielles sont parmi les plus résistantes aux antibiotiques. Une grande étude sur la colonisation intestinale par les klebsielles lève le voile sur le portage humain de ces souches en communautaire (c’est-à-dire hors de l’hôpital), dans les pays à faible ressources. Cette étude montre notamment que le contrôle du portage à klebsielles est un défi complexe.

It is the vector for diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
