Research teams working within the field of virtual reality to enable biologists to visualize and analyze super high-resolution microscopy data are still scarce at global level. Scientists at the Institut Pasteur and Institut Curie developed the Genuage software platform to enter cells and perform various types of measurements more effectively.

The 8^th ceremony in honour of the young graduates who have completed their thesis at the Institut Pasteur during the academic year 2019-2020 was held on December 4^th 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event took place in visio and thus allowed a greater number of young doctoral students from the Institut Pasteur International Network (IPIN) to join this special event. This ceremony, like the previous ones since 2013, continues to highlight the excellence of the international scientific community at the Institut Pasteur.

Les équipes de recherche ne sont pas encore nombreuses dans le monde à travailler dans ce domaine de la réalité virtuelle pour que les biologistes puissent visualiser et analyser des données de microscopie de très haute résolution. Des chercheurs de l’Institut Pasteur et de l’Institut Curie ont développé la plateforme logicielle Genuage pour entrer dans la cellule et réaliser plus efficacement différents types de mesures.

La 8^ème cérémonie en l'honneur des jeunes diplômés ayant terminé leur thèse à l'Institut Pasteur au cours de l'année académique 2019-2020 s'est tenue le 4 décembre 2020. En raison de la pandémie de Covid-19, l'événement a eu lieu en visioconférence et a ainsi permis à un plus grand nombre de jeunes doctorants du Réseau International des Instituts Pasteur (RIIP) de se joindre à cet événement spécial.

Central nervous system infections are devastating diseases, with a high mortality rate and long-term neurological disabilities in those who survive. They can be caused by a variety of pathogenic microorganisms – bacteria, fungi or viruses. One characteristic shared by all these pathogens is their ability to cross a major protective barrier in the brain, the blood-brain barrier.

The Georges, Jacques and Elias Canetti Prize is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The winner of this 2020 edition is Mélanie Hamon, a scientist and Head of the Chromatin and Infection team at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. Her research on the epigenetic modifications induced during bacterial infections particularly focuses on the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacterium, which causes severe respiratory infections, especially in vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly people and immunosuppressed patients.

Les infections cérébrales sont des maladies dévastatrices, accompagnées d’une mortalité élevée ou de séquelles neurologiques graves chez les survivants. Elles peuvent être causées par une variété de microorganismes pathogènes, bactéries, champignons ou virus. Une caractéristique commune à ces pathogènes est leur capacité à traverser une barrière protectrice majeure du cerveau, la barrière hémato-encéphalique.

The Institut Pasteur International Network, with the support of the International Department of the Institut Pasteur (Paris) and in association with institutional funders, has mobilised to help certain member institutes in Africa and Asia to carry out their public health missions in the context of the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The objective of this aid was to provide them with financial and logistical support to strengthen their surveillance, diagnosis and response systems in the face of the virus.
