Daniel Larzul - Innovation - Institut Pasteur

Daniel Larzul gained his first industry experience when he joined the pharmaceutical company Ipsen, then contributed to the creation of the molecular diagnostics startup BioInnova. He subsequently joined Texcell, the Institut Pasteur Viral Safety Laboratory, as Head of the Molecular Biology Laboratory, becoming Scientific Director and finally Director from 1995 to 2003. This service laboratory working for the pharmaceutical and MedTech industry became a company and left the Paris campus in 2003. From 2000 to 2014, Daniel Larzul led the Scientific Coordination Department in the Institut Pasteur's Technology Transfer and Industrial Partnership Research Department. From 2014 to 2017, he was Assistant Vice-President Development – Grants Office and Head of the Mapping and Scientific Communications Department (SCCS).


Nicolas Torno, Associate VP and head of the Patents and Inventions Office

Nicolas Torno is a Biochemist, MBA, french and european patent attorney with 13 years of practice in a prestigious firm. Nicolas Torno was involved for example in the BRCA1 – Myriad board of appeal cases at EPO. Since 2010, he manages the patent portfolio of Institut Pasteur (350 patent families) with a team of 12 colleagues including five patent attorneys and an accountant. He worked on different broad international litigations and negotiations, such as in the field of HIV-1, HIV-2, HBV and HPV ; and co-chaired the AIPPI Biotech French Group. His role extends throughout the Technology Transfer activities of Institut Pasteur comprising business development, industrial and institutional relations, contract review and amendments, negotiations and litigation.


Michel Perez, head of the Development of Innovation Office

Michel Perez - Innovation - Institut Pasteur

Dr. Perez, PhD, has joined the Institut Pasteur in 2019 as head of the Development of Innovation Office and head of Therapeutic Innovation development. In this role, he follows the most advanced therapeutic projects of the institute and manages the orientation towards valuable assets for pharmaceutical development. He is also involved in earlier projects that could address breakthrough innovations in fields such as rare diseases, antimicrobial resistance, gene therapy.

Prior to this position, he was a Senior Director in the French pharmaceutical company Pierre Fabre in charge of pre-clinical research programs. Dr. Perez spent more than 25 years in the pharma industry, from research to preclinical development, in fields such as oncology, cardiovascular or central nervous system. During that period, he had the opportunity to work on many projects based on small molecules, antibodies or conjugates. He also had the chance to drive many collaborations with academic institution such as CNRS or Universities but also with biotechs and startup.

Before joining Pierre Fabre, Dr. Perez worked as scientist at the Eisai Research Institute in the Boston area. He is co-author of many articles and patents and has obtained two awards during his career.


Linda Nait-Kaoudjt, head of the Technology Transfer Office

Linda Nait-Kaoudjt has joined the Institut Pasteur in 2020 as head of the Technology Transfer Office. With more than ten years of experience in business development, Linda Nait-Kaoudjt is an expert in partnerships with industry. She spent the last six years at IQVIA (Quintles & IMS Health merger), a world leader in using data, technology, advanced analysis and human expertise to help life sciences companies advance healthcare and human health. Its mission was to develop partnerships and revenues for pharmaceutical companies, EBPs, medical device companies, investment funds, payers, e-health.


Claire Héritier, head of the Negotiation and Contracts Division

Claire Heritier - Innovation - Institut Pasteur

Claire Héritier, PhD, joined the Institut Pasteur in 2015 as Global Partnership Contract Leader in the Technology Transfer Office. She leads the Negociation and Contracts Division dedicated to ease and accelerate the contractualisation process with industrial partners. Understanding and making the link between the scientific project and the legal department is at the core of her endeavour. Her team is in charge of drafting and negotiating agreements for confidentiality, material transfer, collaborative research, as well as licensing or fee for services. 

After graduating, she joined an IP development consulting firm while pursuing a Master Degree in industrial property law in Paris II Panthéon-Assas University. Claire Héritier then joined one of the leading French and European firms in the IP sector where she was in charge of a department dedicated to IP financial valuation. She supported her clients for IP valuation covering a number of cases (transaction, collaboration or capital contribution, merger and acquisition or tax optimization (transfer pricing)), for the drafting and the negotiation of several types of agreements (technology transfer, transactions and collaborative research agreements), and also for damages assessment in litigation cases.
