Ethics, integrity and compliance at the Institut Pasteur

Through its Ethics Charter, the Institut Pasteur is committed to responsible, ethical, transparent research, conducted with fairness and respect for human dignity. It is proud to be a non-profit foundation with recognized charitable status and is constantly striving to act in the public interest and to uphold the universal, generous, human-centered vision of Louis Pasteur's missions.

Many of the Institut Pasteur's commitments go beyond mere compliance with legal or regulatory obligations. They are laid down in internal policy documents. The Institut Pasteur has set up a number of independent committees to oversee their implementation. These guarantee the reliability of research outcomes, help maintain public trust and meet the requirements of funding bodies and scientific journals. More generally, they demonstrate a continued observance of the Institut Pasteur's core values.

The Institut Pasteur's main charters and policy documents:

People at the heart of our mission

The Institut Pasteur puts people at the heart of its mission, in the firm belief that excellence in scientific research is achieved through the commitment of individuals and the support of those who believe in its work. This involves valuing each and every one of our employees, from scientists to administrative and technical staff. Every member of our community contributes to the success and visibility of the Institut Pasteur.

We are strongly committed to diversity, equity and inclusion – fundamental values that stimulate creativity and drive innovation. By upholding these values, we ensure that every voice is heard and every person helps in our quest to understand the living world and protect life.

Promoting open science

The Institut Pasteur is an advocate for open science, an approach that guarantees reproducible, impactful scientific discoveries while encouraging interdisciplinary and international collaboration. This strategy is not just about research findings; it also applies to data as a way to widen access to information.

In May 2021, the Institut Pasteur adopted two key documents: a Charter for Open Access to Publications and a policy for managing and sharing research data and software code. These two policies were developed in connection with the Institut Pasteur's 2019-2023 Strategic Plan.
