At the end of her visit to French Guiana, Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarity and Health, visited the vectopole of the Institut Pasteur de la Guyane on Friday 1 March 2019.
During this visit, Agnès Buzyn met with the Institute's researchers to talk about their research, and how they monitor infectious diseases through the national reference centres funded by the Ministry of Health.
"The Minister of Solidarity and Health highlighted the essential role played by the Institut Pasteur de la Guyane in supporting public health and the scientific excellence of research on infectious diseases in this region of the world," explains Dr Mirdad Kazanji, Director of the Institut Pasteur de la Guyane, who accompanied the minister throughout the visit.
In recent years, this laboratory has hosted researchers from all over the world, including a 5-year research group funded by LabEx IBEID.

Amongst the scientific assets of the Institut Pasteur de la Guyane is a biosafety level 3 laboratory (P3), with a surface area of 100 m², a unique and important resource in the region.
This laboratory facility permits to carry out experimental infections of mosquitoes with pathogenic organisms in a safe environment, which is crucial to unravel their role as vectors or reservoirs of diseases (such as dengue fever, Chikungunya, and Zika), and to improve our understanding of the transmission of these pathogens to humans.
