The "Emerging Infectious Diseases 1H-EID" project has received €5.9 million in funding over a five-year period. This money will be used to set up a Graduate School offering a multidisciplinary study program in the field of emerging infectious diseases. The aim is to train up future players in research and healthcare and decision-makers of tomorrow so as to better anticipate future disease outbreaks.
When it comes to emerging infectious diseases, it is crucial for us to be able to sound the alert and prepare so that we can implement effective measures to reduce their consequences and the risks involved. Université Paris Cité, in association with the Institut Pasteur, the Alfort National Veterinary School and Sorbonne University, has proposed the establishment of a 1H-EID Graduate School for research and teaching on emerging infectious diseases. The Graduate School will adopt a One Health approach and draw on scientific expertise from several disciplines, incorporating human, animal and environmental health.
The project is one of 70 selected in the second wave of the "Future Skills and Professions" call for expressions of interest (AMI-CMA) launched by the French government, the National Research Agency (ANR) and the Banque des Territoires.

1H-EID Graduate School – future-oriented training in emerging infectious diseases
The cross-disciplinary program connects the fields of biology of emerging pathogens, epidemiology, veterinary science, ecology, evolutionary biology and social anthropology. The Graduate School will bring together French and international students from various backgrounds with a Bachelor's degree in medicine, pharmacy, life sciences or engineering, with the aim of training up future scientists, healthcare professionals and also political decision-makers in the field of emerging infectious diseases. What sets the project apart is a determination to reach out to people from different walks of life by offering a variety of teaching methods and venues. The Graduate School will run symposiums, summer schools and lifelong education programs, as well as MOOCs and initiatives to raise awareness among the general public.
