The Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint) is celebrating the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth by releasing a commemorative coin for sale bearing the scientist's image. For each coin sold, the Monnaie de Paris will donate €1 to the Institut Pasteur's research.
To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Pasteur, the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint) has decided to pay tribute to the scientist with a special commemorative €10 coin bearing the image of Louis Pasteur.
The Monnaie de Paris is partnering with the Institut Pasteur to commemorate the bicentenary by donating €1 to the Institut Pasteur's research for each coin sold.
The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Louis Pasteur. To his left are a microscope and a microscope slide containing microorganisms – an allusion to pasteurization –, surrounded by a quotation by Louis Pasteur. The scene is completed with crystals, evoking Pasteur's early crystallography work.
The piece will go on sale on December 6 : https://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/fr/louis-pasteur-bicentenaire-monnaie-de-10eur-argent-qualite-courante-millesime-2022-qualite-courante
