The Institut Pasteur, a research organization which for more than 130 years has been committed to tackling infectious diseases, sharing knowledge and defending science, has decided to leave X because of several serious abuses observed on the platform since its takeover by Elon Musk. We are suspending our day-to-day activities on the platform immediately and will encourage our subscribers to follow us on other platforms, especially Bluesky, which we recently joined. We will leave X officially in the coming weeks once we have completed this process.
The Institut Pasteur is extremely concerned by the influence exerted by Elon Musk on his platform in promoting not only his own content but also content published by certain accounts for their ideological leanings or simply because they have chosen to pay for a subscription. Over and above the clear bias introduced in this space under the guise of freedom of expression, we condemn the ideas that are promoted in this way, many of which are spreading disinformation and which we feel are incompatible with the principles of rationality, humanism and diversity that we have upheld at the Institut Pasteur for many years. The Institut Pasteur management team is also fully opposed to the political influence campaign waged by Elon Musk to weaken democracies and destabilize Europe's institutional foundations, legal systems and unifying ethical principles.
In pactice, we are suspending our day-to-day activities on the platform X immediately and will encourage our subscribers to move to other platforms that are popular with the various communities we engage with. We will leave X officially in the coming weeks once we have completed this process. In parallel, we have created an account on Bluesky, a platform currently gaining momentum among the research community, which has a policy that we feel is compatible with the principles we uphold. The Institut Pasteur's activity on Bluesky will complement our existing social media presence, especially on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
With its decision to leave X, the Institut Pasteur wants to raise the alarm about the growing threats that are jeopardizing the practice of science and the responsible exercise of free speech. We remain committed to this fight and will continue to support it on other platforms and in other spaces.
