Pasteur 2030

Strengthening our position as a global reference in research on infection and populations' health.

Institut Pasteur prepares for the scientific and societal challenges of the future, by developing an ambitious strategic plan for 2030.

In view of the many risks to human health, such as infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, aging, climate change, chronic inflammatory diseases, cancers (which increasingly affect young people) and neurodegenerative diseases, Institut Pasteur aims to strengthen its role as the world's leading research organization in understanding and combating these diseases by 2030.

The “Pasteur 2030” Strategic Plan

To achieve this ambition, the Institut Pasteur has defined three goals:

  • Improve our understanding of diseases by continuing to support fundamental research focused on understanding biological mechanisms and processes;

  • Find solutions to combat, as the number one priority, infectious diseases and their effects, by leveraging its key expertise in microbiology, infectiology, and immunology;

  • Find solutions to combat infectious diseases and their effects, as the number one priority, by leveraging Institut Pasteur’s key expertise in microbiology, infectiology, and immunology;

  • Share our knowledge and defend the values of science in society.

Our 4 scientific priorities

Priorité stratégique n°1 : Menaces infectieuses

Priority 1. Infectious threats
Fighting infectious diseases and resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents

Priorité stratégique n°2 : Environnement et santé

Priority 2. Environmental transitions and health
Understanding the impact of climate change and ecological
transitions on health and diseases

Priorité stratégique n°3 : Maladies aux âges extrêmes de la vie

Priority 3. Disease genesis
Studying the underlying mechanisms of non-communicable diseases and inflammation

Priorité stratégique n°4 : Genèse des maladies

Priority 4. Health and disease at extreme ages of life
Exploring physiology and immune responses at key life stages, particularly early development (focusing on mother-child relationship) and aging

Our 10 flagship projects

To succeed, we need everyone's mobilization: the mobilization of Pasteurians (Institut Pasteur employees), of course, but also the mobilization of players in the world of research and healthcare, in France, Europe and internationally, and finally that of all those - individuals, companies, philanthropists - who feel concerned by these challenges and are ready to support us.

As an independent foundation acting in the public interest since 1887, the Institut Pasteur has the capacity to adapt and provide a decisive response on the French, European and international scientific scene.

  • The Center for Vaccinology and Immunotherapy (CVI)
  • The "Amplifying Fund in Infection Biology" European program in partnership with EMBL
  • The Center for Infection, Climate and Environment (ICE)
  • The Pasteur Pandemic Preparedness Initiative (P3I)
  • The mother-child research program
  • The Center for Drug Discovery and Development (C3D)
  • The TOTEM program in partnership with Institut Curie and Institut Imagine
  • The IHU reConnect and the Institut du Cerveau de l'Enfant (Children's Brain Institute)
  • The new Institut Pasteur museum
  • The Science Outreach program
